Welcome

Hello, and welcome to my web page !

(Of course this page is, and most likely will always be, under construction !!)

Under Construction

I am currently an astronomer working in Milano (Italy) at the Istituto di Astrofisica Spaziale e Fisica Cosmica (IASF-Milano) of the Italian Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF), where I moved in 1999 after spending three years as a fellow at the European Southern Observatory (ESO), in Garching (Germany). I have obtained a Ph.D. in Astronomy from the Department of Astronomy at Cornell University in 1996.

My research interests are in the field of extragalactic astronomy and observational cosmology.
I have worked on the star formation histories of spiral galaxies; on the use of the Tully-Fisher and Fundamental Plane relations as tools for measuring both redshift-independent distances, and mass-to-light ratios in galaxies; and on the search for distant clusters of galaxies.

You can get a copy of my papers, of my Ph.D. thesis, and of my CV.

At ESO I have been a member of what used to be the NTT team, and I have also worked on the ESO Imaging Survey (EIS).

In Milano I have worked on the Data Reduction Software for VIMOS, an optical imaging spectrograph that is installed on the unit telescope 3 (MELIPAL) of the ESO Very Large Telscope (VLT), and I am currently working on the scientific exploitation of the data taken with VIMOS as part of two large extragalactic surveys: the VIMOS VLT Deep Survey (VVDS), and the Cosmic Evolution Survey (COSMOS).
